it’s that fun time of year where everyone is moving, or planning their move, into their new journal and i’m no different. last year i was working on a SeQes brand bullet journal - getting all my trackers ready for the new year.
this year, i already have a hobonichi cousin ready to go and my only decision is if i want a separate journal for books or if i use an online tracker (i’m toying with building a tracker in notion because i don’t love goodreads or storygraph).
anyway! i’ve been looking at what’s been working in my hobonichi a6, what i want to keep up and how to utilize the new space in the cousin and here’s my tentative plan:
first up, this yearly tracker. i know a lot of people use it for indexing or habit tracking and in a way, i guess i’m also using it to track a habit - the habit of daily wordle and my score vs my friend’s score haha. we’ve been sending each other our scores for well over a year (i really wish i knew when we started this) and since january 2023, we’ve only missed one day - march 27th.
as for the top, i’m planning on counting the stats (my wins vs my friend’s wins vs when we tie). and the bottom i’m thinking a monthly selfie. a friend was talking about how our hands change over the years and that she wanted to be more intentional about documenting parts of aging and while i really love the photo of hands idea, i’m going to try out the monthly selfie and see how i change (or don’t) over 2024.
you know i’m keeping up the daily photo in my monthly calendar. this is my most favorite part of my journal. i’m really excited to see the photos on a slightly larger scale, too. in case you’ve missed it, here’s how i print these small photos.
i’m also migrating my ‘things i don’t buy often’ list to an unused monthly spread (feb 2025 to be exact). i do have two things on there that aren’t products bought, but the idea is still the same - i was curious how many miles we added to my 2000 honda CRV because we would rarely drive it, and then i drove it 430 miles down to las vegas and another 430 miles back. so results will be skewed, but i’m still curious! the other is our jack daniels dish soap dispenser - how often do we refill it? turns out, rarely. i filled it in may and we haven’t even used a quarter of it yet, but we also only use a drop or two at a time.
anyway, my little heart loves this tracker so much and don’t worry, i’ve already apologized to my grandma for all the times i laughed because she was putting the purchase date and price on everything1. i get it now.
the weekly section is where i have the bar set really low. even when i was using a passion planner, i rarely mapped out what my day would look like and time blocking doesn’t work for my brain. so as of right now, i’m thinking all my random lists (this doesn’t exclude me from using lists in the daily pages though!). don’t ask me why, but i truly love blind album ranking and i’m so glad Claire from Online took a tiktok trend and turned it into this chaos. i love the very low-key stress of making the decision but ultimately knowing it does not matter2
as for the daily pages, i’m going to keep up what i’ve been doing, which is mostly memory keeping type pages right now. while i was flipping through my pages to see what i loved, i found this list that i made christmas night and i’ve used some of the ideas and other ideas i’d love to incorporate more - like doodles!
